Rafting On A Couples Only Jamaica Vacation

Articles No Comments »

It’s easy to find an all inclusive vacation in Jamaica but the majority are for families. That’s great for people with kids and fine for those who don’t mind having kids around at their holiday resort. Many couples with grown up children, enjoy being freed from the demands of family vacations. The last thing these couples want is to have to spend their holiday with other people’s children around them instead of their own.

There are however, several very good couples-only vacation resorts in Jamaica that can be booked on an all inclusive basis. Three are owned by the same company and are called “Couples”. One is in Negril, one in Sans Souci and the other is in Ocho Rios. We enjoyed a glorious sixteen day holiday at Couples, Ocho Rios a few years ago. Being naturists, we were attracted to this hotel because it has a clothes-optional facility in the form of a tiny island, a hundred metres or so out from the hotel opposite the main beach. The island is served by a beautiful swim up bar and a boat to take you there and back at any time you want throughout the day. Most of the island is covered with decking on which sun loungers and hammocks are set out to furnish guests with comfortable seating. There is exactly the right amount of coconut palms to provide the sunbathers with a perfect combination of sun and shade at all times of the day. The island is an idyllic place to do nothing all holiday except sunbathe, swim and enjoy the drinks and snacks provided at the swim up bar. But even fanatical sun worshippers like ourselves will want to take some time out and see a bit of Jamaica during their stay.

Without any doubt, the most enjoyable excursion for us was a raft trip on the Rio Grande, Jamaica’s longest river that runs from the Blue Mountains into the sea. Tours, organised by the hotel, start with a fascinating coach journey to Port Antonio, calling in at the famous Blue Lagoon along the way. This was the setting for the film Castaways and it is indeed the most beautiful and peaceful place you could ever wish to swim in. Don’t expect a beach however. The Blue Lagoon hasn’t got one and the film’s beach scenes were shot elsewhere.

The starting point of the raft trip is at Berridale, six miles by road and nearly three hours by raft from the sea. The rafts are thirty two feet long and constructed from bamboo poles lashed together. The deck area has a seat for two passengers at the stern whilst a dreadlocked boatman, stands further forward and steers the raft with a long, bamboo pole.

You are taken at a leisurely pace for most of the way, occasionally picking up speed to cross stretches of the river that might be described as minor rapids. The boatman provides his own brand of constant entertainment, telling many far-fetched yarns about the rich and famous people he has transported in his raft or by singing some Bob Marley favourites to you.

The photo opportunities of the voyage are virtually incessant. As well as some beautiful scenery and wildlife in the form of vultures and other exotic birds, your navigator also creates many pictures worth snapping as he stylishly poles the raft, guiding it through its tricky course. There is always a colourful array of tropical plants to admire on the banks of the river and your guide is most eager to tell you their local names and provide interesting stories or folklore about their uses or associations.

Along the way, you will pass other rafts selling refreshments and the boatman will suggest that he stops for you to buy a can or two of Red Stripe lager or some trinket souvenirs. He is also likely to invite you to take a swim in a particularly inviting part of the river where it is perfectly safe to do so.

The big advantage of going on a trip organised by the hotel is that when you get to your destination at St Margarets Bay, your coach will be awaiting you. If you organised the trip yourself you would have to find some way of getting back to Berridale to pick your car up.

As well as rafting, there are many more wonderful places to visit and things to do in Jamaica but if you prefer not to go on excursions full of kids and want to enjoy your vacation as an exclusively couples only experience, my best travel tip is to book your vacation at one of the “Couples” all Inclusive Hotels. The best time to go is between December and April, when Jamaican weather is at its best and the waters of the Rio Grande are not too swollen or rapid.

Foreclosure Investing: What Is It And How Does It Work?

Articles No Comments »

With the housing market in a downturn and hundreds, if not thousands, of homes going into foreclosure, people are beginning to talk more about and pursue foreclosure investing. But, what is it and how does it work? Well, for answers to your questions on foreclosure investing, keep reading.

What is foreclosure?

Foreclosure is a process that is initiated when a homeowner is not able to pay the mortgage on their property or sell the home quickly or efficiently enough. The financial burden is no longer manageable and the house then becomes the property of the lender or bank. Typically, the property is later sold at a below-market prices in order to settle the outstanding debt.

So, what is foreclosure investing?

The term “foreclosure investing” refers to the practice of buying houses that have gone into or are about to go into foreclosure and then selling them on the traditional real estate market. Typically, these homes are sold at auction or at a reduced price, meaning investors can purchase homes for less than their normal value and then - after doing some repairs and sprucing up - resell the homes for a profit.

What is pre-foreclosure investing?

Pre-foreclosure investing is the practice of buying a property before it’s actually foreclosed on, but after the homeowner has gone delinquent on their payments. In this case, the home is purchased from the owner who can at least make enough on the sale to cover a lot of the owed mortgage debt.

The appeal of pre-foreclosure investing is that the homeowner does not have to go through the process of foreclosure, and the buyer or investor is typically able to obtain the property for less than market value since the seller is highly motivated.

Is foreclosure investing legal?

Yes, foreclosure investing is legal and done by many reputable investors and real estate professionals. Unfortunately, there are some unethical individuals and businesses who prey on homeowners in trouble, claiming they can save them from foreclosure while simultaneously stealing their homes. This practice, however, is considered fraud and is illegal.

Does foreclosure investing work?

That depends on what kind of profitable returns you’re looking for and how fast you want to turn your property around to sell it. Typically, the longer a property appreciates, the greater your return will be. On the other hand, the longer a property appreciates, the greater your carrying costs will be. By carrying costs, we mean the expenses associated with ongoing mortgage payments, taxes, and maintenance.

Also, depending on the location you’re purchasing in and the current real estate market in the area, you may have a hard time selling or making the kind of profit you might otherwise anticipate.

I’ve heard about foreclosure investing clubs - are they a good idea?

Think long and hard before you hand over your money to a stranger, or even a club of strangers. Foreclosure investment clubs can work, but there are also a number of scams out there that prey on potential investors. If you find one that is of interest, investigate them and their practices thoroughly before committing any money.

The Middle Child

Articles No Comments »

Many experts have studied the placement of children in the birth order of the family unit and have discovered that each group displays certain traits and characteristics. Oldest children tend to be born leaders while younger children tend to be affectionate and creative. Middle children characteristics are a little harder to pinpoint as these youngsters usually stand apart from the other children.

Growing up as a middle child can make the youngster feel like they go unnoticed by his parents. The oldest children are held in high esteem due to their accomplishments while the youngest are coddled and babied. The middle child may feel as if he has to struggle just to get noticed. Parents tend to expect more from their youngest and oldest children as it may be difficult for them to define their expectations for the middle child. In most cases, parents may have taken pictures and documented every “first” that their oldest child did and may have lightened up these efforts in relationship to the second child. While the parents may have done this as a result of being more relaxed about their second experience at parenthood, a middle child may view this as solid proof that they mean less to their parents than their older sibling.

The middle child may also constantly compare themselves to the other siblings, especially the older ones. He may seek interests in different areas that will allow them to stand apart from their elder. This attention-seeking attitude also tends to make the middle children the “risk-takers,” often participating in dangerous sports or choosing careers that have an element of danger and/or risks involved.

Parents can take several steps to ensure that their middle child evolves into a happy and healthy adult. They need to focus on the accomplishments of the middle child and make sure that praise is given where it is deserved. You should also try not to compare your children with each other. Holding one child apart as the role model can be detrimental to the development of self esteem in the others.

You also need to encourage your children to work out their disagreements on their own. The middle child may become too dependent on you to fix his problems. Children can learn good negotiating and diplomacy skills from solving their problems between each other on their own.

You may need to spend some extra quality time with your middle child. Oldest and youngest children seem to need your attention more than the middle child does, which is oftentimes misleading. The middle child may not seem to want your attention due to the fact that many middle children are often more emotionally withdrawn and distant from the rest of the family than their siblings. This is an even greater reason to spend more time with them.

There are some good traits that are exhibited by middle children. These children grow up to be more independent and are born mediators and negotiators. They also tend to “go their own way” when dealing with established ideas. They are innovators and thinkers. Some famous middle children include J.F.K., Madonna, Donald Trump, Barbara Walters, and Bill Gates. Each of these people is an example of just how successful middle children can become with a little extra encouragement from their parents. Each of them have “gone their own way” and become role models for others. By supporting your middle child in his tendency to go against the status quo, he may grow to be as successful as some of these middle children have become. The possibilities are endless.

The Only Child-Lucky Or Spoiled?

Articles No Comments »

In the past, large families were commonplace with an average of 3 children being the common statistic. Having only one child was rare, and that child was assumed to be a spoiled, rotten brat. In recent years, due to improved birth control and the fact that many couples are waiting until they are older to have children, only children are becoming more common. This does not mean that there are a large percentage of single-child homes however. Many people still feel that having an only child is undesirable and that having at least two children is necessary for normal childhood development to occur. Although there are some disadvantages to having an only child, there are also some advantages to the situation.

Only children seem to do better in school than children from average-sized families. This could be due to several factors. Parents have more time to help an only child with their homework. With several children, parents may only have the time to quickly check the answers to make sure that they are correct.

Only children often have better language and communicative skills than their peers. This is due to the fact that as the child is growing up, he is spending much more time around adults than a child with several siblings. It is only natural that the child would pick up adult language patterns and vocabulary.

Only children are also more likely to attend college. This is due in part to higher scores in high school. It is also a result of parents of an only child having more money available to pay tuition. This is a combination of the lower costs of raising one child as well as the fact that many parents of only children are older and more financially established than their younger counterparts. With college costs today, families with more than one child may have difficulties sending any of them to college.

Only children also never have to suffer from sibling jealousy, while some children from average size families carry this hostility into adulthood. These only children also may enjoy a closer relationship to their parents than other children, as these youngsters tend to go on trips with their parents more often than their peers. Mothers of only children are also more likely to take the child along to run errands such as going to the grocery store, something that mothers with several youngsters may not consider to be an option.

There are certain areas that parents of only children need to be careful with. There is nothing wrong with showing your child that you love him. The problem that arises with only child is that the parent’s love is all centered on him, especially if the child is the result of years of the parents attempting to have a baby. These parents should make sure that they keep outside interests so that your child will realize that he is not the center of the universe.

Only children also have more difficulty in social situations with their peers. Children with siblings grow up knowing how to interact with other children, while the only child spends most of his childhood with adults. Enrolling your child in a group daycare center or making play dates with other children when your child is young can help him learn to deal with his peers.

There is nothing wrong with parents having only one child. It is how these parents deal with the situation that can make a world of difference.

Is Reciprocal Linking Worth The Effort?

Articles No Comments »

Having incoming links to your website is the single most powerful way to gain recognition in the eyes of the search engines, Google, Yahoo and MSN. The types of links that you have pointing at your website, however, will make a large difference in the type of attention and recognition that you get from the search engines. Things that worked a few years ago are not necessarily the things that work well now. In order to stay on top of the search engine result pages, you need to stay on top of what the search engines require.

Several years ago, it was a fairly easy thing to get to the top of the search engine result pages, or SERPS by launching a massive reciprocal linking campaign. You simply sent out massive amounts of e-mail to webmasters offering a link to their website in exchange for a link back to your own. As a matter of fact, it really didn’t even matter what kind of website you were acquiring the links from, as long as the link pointed towards you. Google was counting all of these links as being beneficial and pointing to the fact that your website was an authority on your particular subject.

Once the word was out, so to speak, some people over used this method to the point where Google eventually stopped counting reciprocal links as being all important as far as ranking your website. As a matter of fact, too much reciprocal linking may have even been an indicator that your website was participating in something that they disagree with. Overnight, people lost their position in the SERPS as a result of this change in the Google algorithm. Does that mean, however, that all reciprocal linking is bad?

Reciprocal linking can still be a very important part of your search engine optimization plan. What you don’t want to do, however, is to rely entirely on this form of linking. Google loves links and they probably always will but you need to start developing campaigns that will result in one way links into your website from authority websites within your same niche. Links from off-topic websites and reciprocal linking will still continue to give you some weight but the all powerful one way link is what will launch your website to the top of the results.

Even though reciprocal linking may be close to dying, it is still an easy way to gain a little bit of recognition. There are still plenty of scripts out there which make reciprocal linking an automated process and if used properly, can make a difference in your rankings. As of right now, Yahoo and MSN still give credit to these reciprocal links and Google still credits them to a certain extent. Until they are totally dead, it will always be a good idea to include them in your marketing efforts as they may make the difference between you being number two on the listings or number one.

Articles No Comments »

A cold sore can be a huge inconvenience due to the pain, embarrassment caused, and difficulty to get rid of. Cold sores are an extremely common condition due to being highly contagious and are actually caused by the herpes simplex virus, which is currently incurable. Although the virus does not yet have a cure, it is possible to cure a cold sore using both natural remedies and over-the-counter products.

It is best to treat the cold sore at its first sign, since a cold sore can last a week or longer if it is not attended to. Salt water works great at cleaning out the sore, and is especially beneficial if it is located inside or on the corner of your mouth. You can even try rubbing a small amount of salt water on the sore if it is located on the lips, but salt water works best when it is swished around the mouth.

There are various over-the-counter ointments that provide pain relief and promote healing, as well as many prescription medications that require a doctor’s visit beforehand. Lysine ointment is very effective in treating cold sores, and can actually reduce the time a cold sore is present by up to 50 percent. It is fairly inexpensive and is available at your local pharmacy, and can diminish the signs of a cold sore in as little as three days.

Regular Chap Stick is also beneficial for those with a cold sore, since it can provide pain relief when applied on a regular basis. It can, however, prevent the cold sore from healing, so it should be cleaned off after about an hour, and a salt water solution should be used to reduce swelling and clean out the sore.

Gilatin is another over-the-counter product that works great at healing cold sores, and is actually intended for healing blisters and other open sores. Because it is a strong ointment, it should only be applied about once every four hours, yet can still reduce swelling and get cure a cold sore in only a matter of days.

There are various home remedies that work just as well as over-the-counter medications, but they actually don’t have any side effects. Lemon balm works great at soothing the sore, and also helps to promote overall healing of the sore in a short period of time.

Tea tree oil and tea bags are also great at soothing open sores, and they help to promote cell production, which in return helps new skin form to help heal the sore. Garlic is another home remedy that many use for curing a cold sore, but it can leave one feeling uncomfortable for the first few days. Prevent Wind Damage To Your Greenhouse

Articles No Comments »

ALL greenhouses are particularly vulnerable to wind damage, and even more so when new.

Of course, some models are stronger in the wind, but they are ALL vulnerable to wind damage - EVEN THE VERY STRONGEST MODELS AVAILABLE IN BRITAIN. So we recommend that you take the potential threat of the wind to damage your greenhouse very seriously not just when choosing your greenhouse, but also positioning it, maintaining it and checking it on an ongoing basis.

Severe winds are so much more common nowadays- the kind of wind which we used to see once every 10 years, now seems to come more than once a year!

To help prevent panes of glass blowing out and to minimize the risk of more serious damage follow these steps:

Position your greenhouse in a position that is as sheltered from the wind as possible. Consider planting hedges or positioning fences as protection from the winds in the future.

Go for the strongest greenhouse you can afford: as a general rule, the more you spend (on the basic frame- not your total bill), the stronger the frame will be. Consider bar capping to replace clips if it is available.

If your glass is held in with clips, your greenhouse is most vulnerable to panes of glass blowing out in high winds. To help prevent this, we recommend using silicone sealant to secure the clips.

Alternatively if you have an Elite or Peak greenhouse you can replace the clips with Bar capping, a full length PVC capping system that secures the glass all the way up and holds it far more firmly in windy conditions.

Please ring us on 0870 4422328 for details.

M ake sure your greenhouse is anchored down to the floor as securely as possible. If your greenhouse is on slabs or concrete; drill and screw it down with brown Rawlplugs and 2″ no 10 screws using a 7mm hammer drill bit.

Make sure that your greenhouse is attached properly to your metal base (if applicable) Although some bases come with metal ‘J-clips’ to attach them to the greenhouse, If you live in windy conditions, we recommend that you drill through the cill of the greenhouse, through the base and bolt them together with a standard greenhouse bolt and nut. Do this about every 2-4′ around the greenhouse. This provides a good extra precaution. (Take care if you do this before glazing that your bolt head will not be in the way of the glass)

Shelter your greenhouse by situating fences or hedging in the way of the prevailing winds. Also be aware that areas that look ’sheltered’ may in fact be ‘wind tunnels’ (e.g down the side of a house)

This is very important

Before heavy winds, make sure that your doors and windows are closed and will stay closed during the wind. If you have a sliding door that has no catch to keep it closed, then you can secure it by drilling a hole in the top door track and inserting a padlock.

After heavy winds, Check your greenhouse. You may find that some clips have moved and got behind the glass and are not securing it - This may weaken the fixing of the pane, then later it may blow out in a comparatively mild wind. These clips need repositioning as soon as possible and to help keep them in place you can put some silione around them. Likewise you may even have had a pane blow out and without checking you may never realize it: this is a dangerous situation because there is a gap in the greenhouse and if the wind gets up again it could cause some more damage quickly. NEVER try and repair your greenhouse whilst it is still windy.

If you haven’t actually ordered your greenhouse yet, then we recommend that you choose a Hercules or a Robinsons greenhouse for the best wind resistance. But even with these very strongst models, you should remain vigilent.

Your greenhouse is usually included on your home insurance, but it’s as well to check this when you talk to your insurers. No greenhouse manufacturer that we know of gives any kind of guarantee for damage caused to your greenhouse by wind.

Please do take the threat posed to your greenhouse by the wind seriously. A few more precautions and a little regular vigilance and maintenance will stack the odds in your favour. If you can see a problem early it can often be mended easily and prevent the damage spreading.

If you have lost some panes of glass, then you can usually get this quickly from your local glass shop. We do stock most of the glass sizes of course, and if you are able to collect from our warehouse in Stoke-on-Trent then we an supply it for you at the best possible price - sometimes less than half the price of your local glass shop. However if you can’t collect from our warehouse, your local glass shop will usually be quicker and cheaper.

If glass does blow out of your greenhouse, try and block the hole as quickly as possible even if it’s just with a blanket held on with clothes pegs- this stops the wind getting in and casing further damage. Of course you can get glass from us, but we only recommend that you get your replacement glass from us if you are able to collect it. We can not deliver glass in small quantities for a competitive price. If you are unsure where you can get glass locally, then you can type ‘glass merchant’ into www.yell.com

If the worst happens, and your greenhouse is destroyed by winds, then you should contact your insurance company who will advise you what to do- Usually, this may be to get a written quotation for a replacement. We can help with providing quotations for replacements including removal of the old greenhouse and assembly of the new please call us on 0870 442 2328.

Nail Fungus - 4 Facts And Tips In Fighting Nail Fungus

Articles No Comments »

Does the idea of falling nails scare you? You must be. Nail fungus can do that slowly but surely. Nail fungal infection is onychomycosis (on-ee-koh-my-ko-sis) in scientific term. They are micro-predators from the bacterium called dermatophyte or tinea unguium, mother of other skin disorders such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, and ringworm. Yeasts and molds are its common sources.

The disease indeed looks as bad as the name sounds. Once your nails are penetrated, they progressively form ugly cracks on the outer layers and white, yellow or black discoloration. It is accompanied by swelling, redness, and itchiness around the affected area. In the process, the nails, which once served as protective barrier to the fungus, detach from the nail bed and it would take months of treatment for a new one to grow.

There are of course some hassle-free preventive means to avoid them, if you haven’t yet been afflicted. Below is a list of useful facts and tips for you to follow:

Fact 1. The bacteria dermatophyte is anaerobic in nature, or it booms in places with very little or no supply of oxygen like your feet for example - they habitually stay covered in socks and shoes for 80 per cent of the day and are less ventilated.

Tip 1 . Always keep your feet dry and clean. Apply foot powder before putting on a pair of 100% cotton socks and shoes. It is also necessary that you keep your feet sheltered in wet and people-heavy surroundings (e.g. public swimming pools, gyms, communal toilets) to ward off possible contamination.

Fact 2. The toenails are the favorite habitat of dermatophyte because they are always more secluded, damp, and warm. This doesn’t give you reason to be lax with your fingernails. If your hands are often exposed in water and/or chemicals, the fingernails can also be infected.

Tip 2. As much as possible, wear gloves to protect your hands. Dry them immediately after exposure to liquid. Also, be sure to use sanitized instruments on your nails. If you prefer manicure and pedicure done by a professional in the salon, check if they sterilize their tools. Better yet, bring your own to be safer.

Fact 3. According to statistics, men are more likely to be infected than women. Kids need not worry, however. As anyone can actually be a victim to nail fungal infections, adults, persons suffering from diabetes and leukemia are among the most vulnerable groups to acquire this nail disorder. It is due to their immune systems getting weaker and blood circulation problems.

Tip 3. Proper hygiene and eating health foods that strengthen the body’s defense mechanism is the ultimate key to survival from these fungi. Acquiring nail fungal infection for diabetic and leukemic is dangerous as it may lead to other complications, so prevention is a must.

Fact 4. There are oral and topical treatments available over the counter which can help kill nail fungi. Popular brands like Dermisil, Lamisil, Tinactin, etc. are among the widely suggested. Alternative remedies can also be done if you want less costly medication. You may try soaking the infected part in vinegar for about 20 minutes two times a day. Do this until the infection disappears and you can expect a new nail to grow. Otherwise, just apply Vicks VapoRub.

Tip 4. Consult a podiatrist (a foot doctor) or dermatologist (a skin doctor) for professional and safe advice.

Buying A Cyprus Holiday Home, Villa Or Apartment?

Articles No Comments »

Are you thinking of investing in a Cyprus holiday home, villa or apartment? If the answer is yes then you had better hurry as prices are just starting to rise just as Economists have predicted. Cyprus property for sale is great value at the moment but prices are slowly starting to climb and it is still definitely a buyers market.

Situated in the Mediterranean and with a wonderful climate, the island is ideal for young and old alike. There are two beautiful mountain regions in Cyprus, road maps will clearly show these and the climate is cooler in the mountains during the summer months, around 3-5 degrees, which may not sound much but when the weather on the coast is 40+ you will be thankful of the cooler mountainous regions.

Buying a Cyprus holiday home, villa, studio or even small apartment does not mean you are restricted to the coastal areas; why not take a look at the mountain regions? You will find some beautiful properties nestled amongst the pine trees, the scent and the views in the mountains are unforgettable. Imagine sipping your breakfast coffee and eating your croissants sitting on your veranda surrounded by pine trees and listening to the birds singing. That can only be blissful in our opinion.

Cyprus road maps are an ideal way to scour the regions to enable you to find the area most suitable for buying your Cyprus holiday home. A villa is the ideal way to live in Cyprus, especially if you have bought it as an investment. Flights are inexpensive so staying in touch with friends and family will not pose any problems, apart from the fact that they may want to come over to visit you often in your Cyprus holiday home villa.

Once in Cyprus, the property for sale prices will astound you and you may have difficulty choosing just one!!
Arm yourself with some Cyprus road maps and take a real good tour of the Island before deciding on an area, do you like the idea of the city of Nicosia, or a cosmopolitan resort like Limassol or even an area with plenty of nightlife and clubs like Ayia Napa? The choice is yours, it may be a difficult decision and you may even opt for two smaller properties. In Cyprus, property for sale is in abundance but it won’t be this way for long as there are many potential investors interested in buying a Cyprus holiday home, a villa seemingly the most popular choice.

Nestled in the Mediterranean, the Island is typical of the area with the food being fresh and healthy and the weather glorious, there is an average of 320 days sunshine per year and sometimes snow in the mountains from January to March, so if you like skiing then you can have the best of both worlds.
